Nihon Falcom Expands Nintendo Switch 2 Support with New Titles and Multiplatform Strategy

Nihon Falcom, the acclaimed Japanese game developer behind beloved series such as Ys and Trails, has firmly reiterated its commitment to the Nintendo Switch 2 platform.

Building on its recent string of successes, Falcom plans to self-publish more major titles for the upcoming Nintendo console and pursue an ambitious multiplatform strategy in the years ahead. This renewed focus emerged in a recent report from GameBiz, with translations provided by Automaton Media, showcasing Falcom’s proactive stance towards next-generation hardware.

The company also revealed that a new Nintendo Switch 2 port of one of its existing titles is currently in development, though specific details remain undisclosed.

Fans can expect further information about this upcoming port within the year. Falcom’s financial results for the latest fiscal year highlight impressive growth: the company registered a 3.5% year-on-year revenue increase, totaling approximately $16.7 million USD for 2025.

Operating profit and net profit rose by 8.1% and 6.0%, respectively.

These gains reflect robust international launches, including 'Trails through Daybreak II,' the global debut of 'Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter,' and the Japanese release of 'Ys X: Proud Nordics.' Strengthening its global reach remains a central goal for Falcom.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will play a significant role in expanding the company’s audience, complemented by broader multiplatform releases and enhanced multilingual support.

Notably, both the international release of 'Ys X: Proud Nordics' and the forthcoming 'Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter' will offer English, French, German, and Spanish subtitles, demonstrating Falcom’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. While porting past titles has provided a steady stream of content, Falcom acknowledges that these efforts have "had a limited impact on business performance." The company is now pivoting towards a new strategy—aiming to release two new games per year for the next three years.

Currently, Falcom has six unannounced projects in development: two of these are ports, including the new Nintendo Switch 2 port, and three are entirely new titles.

Fans can look forward to additions to the Trails and Ys series, as well as a fresh Tokyo Xanadu installment. Recent and upcoming releases underscore Falcom’s productivity.

'The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon' launches next week, promising a strong experience on the Switch 2.

The international release of 'Ys X: Proud Nordics' is set for February 20th, while later in the year, 'Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta' and 'Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter' will arrive in Western markets, the latter scheduled for a fall launch. With a robust release pipeline and a clear commitment to both Nintendo Switch 2 support and global players, Nihon Falcom is poised to solidify its position as a key player on the Nintendo eShop and beyond.
