Wube Software has officially announced Factorio Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, bringing a host of significant upgrades to the acclaimed construction and management simulator.
While a specific release date is yet to be confirmed, the development team is targeting a December launch for Factorio's highly anticipated arrival on the next-generation handheld, Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement marks a major milestone for the Factorio franchise on Nintendo hardware.
Since its original Switch release, Factorio has earned praise for its deep gameplay, robust mechanics, and faithful adaptation by developer Wube Software.
With the new Switch 2 Edition, fans can expect a range of substantial improvements engineered to harness the power of the latest Nintendo console.
Among the standout enhancements, Factorio Switch 2 Edition will natively output at 1080p resolution in handheld mode, a marked increase from the previous 720p limit.
Docked users will enjoy support for all resolutions, including up to a striking 2160p (4K).
The development team has also introduced support for variable refresh rates on the Switch 2 screen, resulting in smoother and more responsive gameplay.
Visual upgrades extend further, with higher quality animations and increased resolution for in-game sprites.
Additional visual polish ensures an even more immersive experience, while optimized loading routines significantly reduce waiting times.
Notably, players will now be able to construct much larger bases, taking full advantage of the enhanced Switch 2 hardware capabilities.
Accessibility has also been improved, with new "Mouse Mode" support leveraging the Joy-Con Mouse Sensor feature.
Players will have the option to use either Joy-Con as a makeshift mouse, greatly streamlining base construction and management tasks.
In an effort to recognize early supporters, Wube Software has confirmed that existing owners of Factorio on Nintendo Switch will receive the Switch 2 upgrade at no additional cost.
The update is planned to launch concurrently with the Space Age DLC expansion, which will make its debut on Nintendo's new hardware.
According to the developers, all features from the Space Age DLC are fully intact, with "nothing removed or trimmed down" for the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Factorio continues to build on its strong legacy, further cementing its place among the best management and simulation games available.
With the Switch 2 Edition, Wube Software has once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering cutting-edge experiences on Nintendo platforms.
