Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Brings Parisian Flair to Nintendo Switch with Evil Empire at the Helm

The world-renowned Castlevania series is poised for a striking return with Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the latest entry now in development by acclaimed French studio Evil Empire.

Revealed in recent months, the new title is set to make its mark on the Nintendo Switch eShop and other platforms, infusing the storied 2D action-platformer formula with a distinctive Parisian twist.

Evil Empire, best known for their expertise in action titles, takes the reins in reviving Konami’s beloved franchise.

In a recent statement, the studio shared fresh insights into Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, confirming that players will explore a richly rendered Paris, France.

This creative decision reflects the developers’ heritage and serves as a proud moment for the team, as Castlevania’s iconic Gothic horror shifts to the romantic, yet shadowy, streets of the French capital.

"Being a French studio, we wanted to showcase our roots by setting the game in France," explained Evil Empire’s marketing lead, Matt Houghton.

The game promises memorable excursions through landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the catacombs that wind beneath Paris, while reimagining local legends in classic Castlevania style.

As players ascend the towering spires of Notre Dame, delve into the bone-littered tunnels, and face formidable foes—including a dark, corrupted take on Joan of Arc—they will find both novelty and reverence for the series’ legacy.

Houghton lightheartedly noted the quintessentially French atmosphere, remarking that, “All that’s missing are berets and baguettes—but perhaps players have seen enough of those clichés already.” He also gave a nod to fellow French-developed titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, underscoring the country’s burgeoning presence in the global gaming landscape.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set to expand the franchise’s legacy on Nintendo Switch, complementing the system’s robust library of platformers.

Though a firm release date is still forthcoming, anticipation continues to build across the Nintendo and Castlevania communities.

Evil Empire’s inventive take through a Paris backdrop not only represents a bold new direction for the series but also celebrates international talent in game development.

With its promise of classic 2D gameplay, iconic Castlevania action, and a fresh French setting, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is one of the most anticipated entries on Nintendo Switch and beyond.

Stay tuned to upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations and the eShop for further updates as the release approaches.
