Evercade Funstock, the official online store operated by Blaze—the developer behind the popular Evercade series of retro-focused gaming hardware—has announced a significant change to its US retail policy.
Effective immediately, US customers will no longer be able to complete purchases via the Funstock platform, a decision stemming from recent global changes impacting commercial shipping regulations, specifically the suspension of the De Minimis exemption.
The De Minimis exemption has, until now, allowed lower-value shipments to enter the United States without substantial import fees.
However, recent regulatory updates mean a 30% import fee is now levied on all shipments from Funstock to the US due to the country of origin for Evercade and HyperMegaTech products—primarily China.
This abrupt increase in costs has rendered continued US order fulfillment unsustainable for the retailer.
In a statement distributed to Funstock's customer base, Blaze reiterated the financial realities of the decision: "We are unable to sustain these fees as a retailer in the long term." The company further clarified that no mechanism currently exists to allow US customers to pay these import fees in advance during checkout.
Blaze and Funstock have pledged to monitor potential solutions and reconsider their US offerings as the situation evolves.
Despite these challenges, Funstock confirmed that all existing pre-orders from US customers will be fulfilled at original cost, with no additional fees attached.
"As a mark of goodwill toward our dedicated US customer base, all pre-orders will be honored, with Blaze absorbing the extra costs for these transactions only." The retailer also assured customers that it does not anticipate further requests for additional courier or local government payments related to these orders, although it acknowledged that uncontrollable charges may arise once shipments have been dispatched.
This policy change does not impact customers in Canada or any other global territory—only US orders are affected.
Funstock will remain accessible to US visitors for browsing but purchasing capability is suspended until further notice.
As a long-standing hub for Evercade hardware and cartridge collections, Funstock also retails the innovative Super Pocket systems and recently announced plans to expand its catalog with the Super Micro range.
Blaze and Funstock's swift transparency on this issue reflects their continued commitment to international customers despite challenging import conditions.
Industry analysts will continue to monitor the impact of these worldwide policy changes on specialty retailers like Blaze, as gaming hardware enthusiasts in the US navigate shifting access to niche platforms such as Evercade.
