The publisher detailed the upgrade, pricing, launch timing and DLC handling in an official FAQ posted on its Discord server.
Release date, price and formats
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed for Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026, at 15:00 Central European Summer Time for all regions except Japan, where it will arrive on October 8, 2026, at 00:00 JST.
The game’s retail price is set at €39.99 / $39.99 / £34.99.
THQ Nordic said there will be no preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.
The title will be sold digitally and as a Game Key Card; the publisher confirmed it will not be released as a full cartridge product for the Switch 2.
Free upgrade details for existing Switch owners
According to THQ Nordic’s FAQ, owners of the Nintendo Switch version can upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no extra cost.
Digital owners will receive a free upgrade patch delivered through the Nintendo eShop system.
Physical owners can insert their existing Nintendo Switch game card into a Nintendo Switch 2 console, install the game (and any owned DLC), and then download the upgrade patch.
THQ Nordic emphasized that the upgraded Switch 1 installation and the standalone Switch 2 product are treated as separate products by the console operating system.
Save transfer and DLC handling
If players use the free upgrade patch on their Switch 1 installation, they will be able to continue their progress after transferring save files from a Nintendo Switch to a Nintendo Switch 2 console.
However, a direct purchase of the Switch 2 edition does not inherit Switch 1 save data because the publisher treats it as a separate product.
DLC included in the Switch 2 edition is bundled with purchased copies of the new version.
If a player already owns and has installed both the base game and the Costume Pack DLC on Nintendo Switch 1, the upgrade patch will grant access to that DLC on Switch 2.
Players who only own the base game on Switch 1 will not gain DLC access via the upgrade patch unless they first buy and install the standalone DLC on Switch 1.
Performance and support
THQ Nordic states the Nintendo Switch 2 version runs at a higher resolution and frame rate than the Switch 1 version, particularly when docked, and there is no quality/performance toggle.
The publisher also confirmed there are no additional patches planned for other platforms at this time and that any future ports would be announced through their official channels.
All details above are drawn from THQ Nordic’s official Discord FAQ.
