Dynasty Warriors Origins on Nintendo Switch 2 Will Prioritize Stable 30 FPS, Confirms Koei Tecmo

Koei Tecmo’s beloved action franchise makes its next-gen debut as Dynasty Warriors Origins is set for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026.

Fans of the series can look forward to massive on-screen battles, but the developer has now clarified that the game will operate at a stable 30 frames per second (FPS) on the new Nintendo hardware. Dynasty Warriors Origins, developed by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force team, is known for its hallmark feature of showcasing thousands of warriors battling in real-time across expansive battlefields.

While earlier titles in the franchise have reached 60 FPS on other platforms, many Nintendo fans hoped the hardware advancements in the Nintendo Switch 2 would bring similar performance.

However, the studio has officially addressed their design decision to cap frame rate at 30 FPS for the Switch 2 version. During the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Tomohiko Sho, Head of the Omega Force brand, addressed performance concerns and explained the development reasoning behind the frame rate cap.

He stated, "For the Switch 2 release, we are targeting a constant 30 frames per second to ensure smooth and stable gameplay.

While the new hardware is impressive and technically capable of reaching 60 FPS, achieving that performance would require reducing the number of on-screen soldiers to levels seen in past installments.

For this title, we believe offering battles with thousands of characters at once and maintaining a consistent 30 FPS is the best experience for players." Sho’s comments highlight Omega Force’s commitment to large-scale, immersive battles even if it comes at the sacrifice of higher frame rates.

Dynasty Warriors Origins will leverage the Nintendo Switch 2’s improved processing power primarily to support these massive battle scenarios, rather than prioritizing a higher FPS cap. The decision underscores a development philosophy focused on delivering the authentic spectacle and chaos that the Dynasty Warriors series is celebrated for.
