Koei Tecmo’s flagship action series, Dynasty Warriors, is returning to Nintendo platforms with the highly anticipated port of Dynasty Warriors: Origins for the Nintendo Switch 2.
First unveiled at a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, this new installment promises to bring the massive, crowd-filled battles the franchise is famous for to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
However, recent updates confirm that Dynasty Warriors: Origins will run at a fixed 30 frames per second (fps) on Nintendo Switch 2—a decision made to maintain the scale and intensity of its on-screen action.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins, developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, continues the series’ tradition of real-time hack-and-slash combat set against epic, historical backdrops.
Since its debut in 1997, the franchise has been celebrated for its ability to render battles with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of characters clashing on screen—creating a distinctive gameplay experience that has resonated with fans worldwide.
The new entry aims to uphold that legacy on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, director Tomohiko Sho addressed the decision to lock Dynasty Warriors: Origins at 30fps on Nintendo Switch 2.
Sho explained, with clarity and purpose, that their primary focus is ensuring a stable gameplay experience while maximizing the number of visible characters.
If the development team chose to reduce the number of on-screen soldiers to levels found in earlier series entries, the Nintendo Switch 2 could potentially achieve 60fps performance.
However, maintaining the spectacle and scale unique to Dynasty Warriors remains the priority.
As Sho put it, "We’ve set the framerate to a stable 30fps to allow for several thousand characters to be present during battles.
This approach ensures players can fully experience the series’ trademark large-scale combat."
Despite the compromise on framerate, Sho commended the Nintendo Switch 2’s capabilities, noting that its hardware facilitates stable operations and enables the studio to deliver an action-packed experience.
The game aims to blend smooth performance with the immersive chaos that Dynasty Warriors fans expect, ensuring both seasoned players and newcomers can enjoy the full scope of its massive battles whether docked or in handheld mode.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is poised to be a major title for the Nintendo Switch 2, with further details including its release date, eShop availability, and additional gameplay features expected to be revealed in upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations.
For now, the proactive communication from Koei Tecmo and director Tomohiko Sho assures the gaming community that the scale, spectacle, and hallmark action of Dynasty Warriors will be preserved and optimized for Nintendo’s new platform.
Stay tuned for more updates on Dynasty Warriors: Origins, including sales milestones, expanded features, and insights directly from the development team as the Nintendo Switch 2 launch cycle unfolds.
