Dream Disc '25 Game Jam: Orc Face Games and Psyop Games Launch New Event for Sega Dreamcast Developers
The Sega Dreamcast community is once again set to celebrate creativity and innovation with the announcement of Dream Disc '25, a homebrew game jam dedicated to developing new titles for Sega's beloved console.
Organized by Orc Face Games in partnership with Psyop Games, the event builds on the strong legacy established by last year's Dream Disc '24 and continues to foster a vibrant ecosystem for Dreamcast developers worldwide.
Dream Disc '25 is scheduled to launch on December 1st, according to the official event site, and will run through the end of February.
This provides both seasoned and aspiring developers a three-month window to craft original games or creative projects for the Dreamcast platform.
A panel of judges will review all submissions after the event period, selecting top entries for special recognition.
As per the organizers, the top three game submissions will each receive a cash prize.
Additionally, the ten best projects will secure a spot on the physical Dream Disc '25 CD-ROM release, set for distribution next year.
These top creations join a growing library that showcases the ongoing evolution and passion within the Dreamcast homebrew scene.
Past events have demonstrated the remarkable range of talent in the community: last year, Dreamcast developer Falco Girgis reported a record 24 diverse submissions, spanning genres from 3D space shooters and VMU mini-games to innovative custom hardware projects.
This year, Dream Disc '25 aims to be even more inclusive by expanding access to a broader suite of development tools and frameworks.
Participants now have the option to use powerful resources such as the Lua-based Antiruins, the C-based raylib engine, SDL2/3, the Driving Strikers' engine Simulant, the robust KallistiOS SDK, and SH4ZAM.
These options make it easier than ever for developers of all backgrounds and experience levels to bring their Dreamcast visions to life.
For those looking to get involved, the organizers encourage joining the Orc Face Games and Simulant Discord servers, which serve as collaborative spaces for Dreamcast developers seeking technical support, advice, or simply a place to connect with peers.
These communities have become invaluable resources for troubleshooting, sharing ideas, and nurturing the next generation of homebrew talent.
With Dream Disc '25 on the horizon, the Sega Dreamcast continues to inspire a passionate base of creators and fans alike.
Events like these underline the console's lasting legacy and highlight the enduring appeal of indie game development for retro hardware.
