Nintendo has officially confirmed the end of service for Dr. Mario World, the free-to-start mobile puzzle game that launched for iOS and Android on July 10, 2019.

Developed in partnership between Nintendo, Line Corporation and NHN Entertainment, the title brought a match-style take on the classic Dr. Mario formula to smartphones and was distributed through the App Store and Google Play.

Shutdown timeline and in-app purchases

Nintendo's end-of-service notice states that Dr. Mario World will cease operation on November 1, 2021 at 06:00 UTC.

In a related change, the company stopped sales of the game's premium currency, diamonds, starting July 28, 2021.

After the service end, launching the Dr. Mario World app will display an end-of-service notification and gameplay will no longer be available.

What Nintendo told players

In its official message, Nintendo thanked players for supporting the game since its July 10, 2019 launch and explained the practical steps that will follow the closure.

The company said a portion of player history will be preserved on a new web archive called Dr. Mario World Memories so fans can look back on their progress and milestones.

Nintendo also made clear that players who prefer not to have their play history retained may delete their save data through the app's Delete Save Data option prior to the service ending.

Community and platform context

Dr. Mario World was one of several Nintendo mobile experiments in bringing core series IP to smartphones, distinct from the company's Nintendo Switch releases and eShop strategy.

Nintendo used its official channels, including the game's English Twitter account, to notify players about the closure on July 28, 2021.

For players affected by the shutdown, Nintendo's notice is the authoritative source for timing and procedures; the company advised checking in-game notices for further details on refunds, remaining events, and other end-of-service processes.

The Dr. Mario World Memories archive will serve as an official commemoration of the mobile title after active service stops.
