The Disney Afternoon Collection Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch With Exclusive Content

Nearly nine years since its original release, The Disney Afternoon Collection is making a long-awaited debut on Nintendo platforms, launching for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on February 26, 2026.

This fan-favorite retro compilation, expertly restored by Digital Eclipse, brings together beloved titles based on classic Disney Afternoon cartoons.

The Switch release arrives with a significant upgrade: the addition of two new games, Goof Troop and Bonkers, making this the definitive version for Nintendo fans. Originally launched in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, The Disney Afternoon Collection curates a selection of iconic platformers and action games produced by Capcom, based on popular animated series such as DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers.

Fans have been vocal in their desire to see these games land on Nintendo hardware since the initial launch.

According to Chris Kohler, Editorial Director at Digital Eclipse, the team "always wanted to bring The Disney Afternoon Collection to Nintendo platforms," but it required years of continued discussion and coordination to finally make it a reality. Kohler notes, "These are timeless classics, and it's been exciting to see that, even after nearly a decade, there's strong enthusiasm for this collection coming to both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2." The return is more than just a port; alongside the six NES classics previously included, Nintendo players receive Goof Troop and Bonkers—two fitting additions based on later entries in the Disney Afternoon TV block, both developed by Capcom and never before included in the collection. Atari’s involvement with the Nintendo version is tied to publishing and licensing rights for the Switch platforms.

Kohler clarified that while Capcom remains the publisher for previous platforms, Atari worked directly with Disney and Digital Eclipse to secure the Nintendo release.

This collaborative approach is why the new content—Goof Troop and Bonkers—is exclusive to the Switch and Switch 2 editions and will not be added to older versions. Beyond gameplay, Digital Eclipse is known for its archival presentation of retro titles.

The original Gallery sections, researched and written by industry historian Frank Cifaldi, set a high bar for contextual depth, offering museum-like exhibits within the compilation.

Kohler said that this in-depth approach "directly inspired the studio's current push toward more elaborate interactive documentaries," aiming to give players not just the games, but also deep, curated insight into their historical and cultural impact. On the subject of physical releases, Kohler addressed the positive reception from players regarding standard key cards for Nintendo platforms: "We’re happy to confirm The Disney Afternoon Collection will ship on a regular key card for Switch 2." No additional updates or GameShare features are planned for now, and the studio intends for this to be the final, definitive edition. The Disney Afternoon Collection stands as a shining example of video game preservation and thoughtful curation in the modern era.

With its carefully expanded content and feature-rich presentation, the Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch editions set a new standard for retro compilations—demonstrating Digital Eclipse's ongoing commitment to honoring gaming's rich history.

Fans can revisit these cherished classics, complete with exclusive content, when the collection launches on February 26, 2026.
