Disgaea Mayhem Confirmed for Western Release on Nintendo Switch and PS5 in Summer 2026

NIS America has officially revealed that 'Disgaea Mayhem,' an action RPG spin-off from the longstanding Disgaea series, will launch in the West for Nintendo Switch, the forthcoming Switch 2, PC, and PlayStation 5 during Summer 2026.

Originally released in Japan as 'Kyouran Makaism' and in Asia as 'Makaism: Frenzy of the Netherworld,' this new title marks a significant expansion for the franchise, introducing action-based gameplay to a series renowned for its tactical combat mechanics. The Disgaea series, developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published globally by NIS America, has earned critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase since its inception in 2003.

With its signature humor, deep strategy elements, and over-the-top mechanics—such as characters dealing millions of damage points—the Disgaea franchise has become a staple on Nintendo platforms, including the popular Nintendo Switch and the eShop. Disgaea Mayhem reimagines classic gameplay by giving players direct control of combat as N.A., a mercenary protagonist motivated by a love of sweets and monetary rewards.

Tasked with aiding Princess Tichelle—who has a notorious craving for flan—players will fight through waves of monsters using a diverse arsenal.

The game's weapon system spans seven unique classes, allowing fans to switch between swords, bows, guns, and more at any time to tailor their combat style. A representative from NIS America commented, "Disgaea Mayhem brings a fresh perspective to the franchise without sacrificing the beloved mechanics our fans cherish.

Players can expect to engage in the familiar grind to power up equipment, reincarnate their characters, and strategize to maximize their damage output—all while enjoying fast-paced action RPG gameplay." Key features of Disgaea Mayhem include the ability to Magichange weapons for dynamic combat, extensive grinding for character and equipment progression via the iconic Item World, and quirky storylines centered on oddball relationships—like the team-up between N.A.

and Princess Tichelle.

Classic series elements such as recruiting beloved demon characters like Prinnies and passing bills at the darkly comedic Dark Chocolate Assembly have also been confirmed for the western release. With a scheduled launch across multiple platforms—including Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, and PlayStation 5—Disgaea Mayhem is poised to reach a broad audience.

This announcement underlines NIS America's commitment to bringing diverse Japanese game experiences to international markets while evolving the Disgaea series for both new and returning players. Fans can look forward to experiencing a new flavor of Disgaea action when Disgaea Mayhem launches in Summer 2026.
