Digimon Survive Release Delayed to 2022: Bandai Namco Allocates More Time for Development

Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially announced that the release of Digimon Survive, the highly anticipated survival-strategy RPG, has been postponed until 2022.

Previously scheduled for a 2021 launch, this delay allows the development team additional time to refine and enhance the game for its debut on platforms including the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo eShop. The announcement was made by game producer Habu Kazumasa, who attributed the rescheduling to the need for further development.

In a statement, Habu emphasized the team's commitment to delivering a polished experience for fans, explaining, “We appreciate your continued patience and support for Digimon Survive.

While our initial goal was to release the game in 2021, we determined that more time was necessary to further develop and improve the title.

We are using this delay to ensure Digimon Survive meets the high expectations of our community.” Habu also acknowledged the difficult nature of the decision, thanking fans and assuring them that the entire development team is working diligently to complete the project.

"The entire team is working as hard as we can, and we appreciate your patience as we aim to deliver the best possible game experience.

We look forward to sharing updates about Digimon Survive with you in the near future.

Thank you for your ongoing support," Digimon Survive invites players to step into the shoes of Takuma Momozuka, a second-year middle school student who becomes lost in a mysterious parallel world during a school camping trip.

Takuma quickly forms an alliance with Agumon and must navigate treacherous battles against dangerous creatures while seeking a way to return home. The gameplay will feature tactical RPG mechanics, boasting around 100 different Digimon species.

The title also marks the 20th anniversary of the Digimon anime, making it a celebratory release for fans of the franchise.

One of the key gameplay systems revolves around Digivolution: Digimon can evolve by fulfilling specific requirements, consuming EP (Energy Points) in the process.

When a Digimon's EP is depleted, it reverts to its original form, with EP restored through actions such as attacking enemies or communicating with battle partners. Digimon Survive is scheduled to launch in 2022, both at retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.

As Bandai Namco Entertainment continues development, players can expect further announcements and updates as the new release window approaches.
