Penguin Colony Nintendo Switch 2: Origame Digital’s Antarctic Lovecraftian Adventure Heads to the eShop in 2026

Origame Digital and publisher Fellow Traveller have confirmed that Penguin Colony is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, with a worldwide digital release scheduled for the Nintendo eShop in 2026.

The project comes from Origame Digital, the studio best known for Umurangi Generation, and reimagines Lovecraftian themes—such as those from At The Mountains of Madness—through an unconventional lens: the eyes of a penguin.

Set across Antarctica’s frozen expanse, Penguin Colony is described as an open-ended exploration game where players move by waddling, sliding, and swimming through icy environments.

The developer and publisher say the design emphasizes environmental storytelling; players will piece together the narrative about two factions drawn to the continent—one that seeks to harness an ancient, incomprehensible power and one that aims to return that force to slumber.

Fellow Traveller and Origame Digital have outlined the core gameplay loop as centered on multiple playable penguins with distinct abilities and constraints.

According to the publisher’s announcement, players will control different penguins that offer unique exploration options: some can squeeze into tight, hidden spaces, while others can traverse the frigid waters.

These differing capabilities are intended to provide multiple perspectives on the same world and to influence how players uncover secrets beneath the ice.

The story will reportedly unfold through environmental discovery and narration rather than traditional cutscenes, gradually revealing an unsettling truth buried under Antarctica’s surface.

This approach echoes Origame Digital’s previous work, which emphasized photographic and environmental mechanics to convey story elements in Umurangi Generation.

Penguin Colony’s confirmation for Nintendo Switch 2 places it among early third-party entries targeting Nintendo’s next-generation portable-home hybrid hardware.

Fellow Traveller, which has published a range of indie narrative titles, is handling the release and distribution strategy for the eShop launch in 2026.

More details on Penguin Colony, including gameplay footage, release windows, and platform-specific features, are expected from Origame Digital and Fellow Traveller as development progresses.
