The Rogue Prince of Persia, the anticipated roguelike action platformer developed by Evil Empire—the same studio behind the acclaimed Dead Cells—has officially been confirmed for release on both the Nintendo Switch and upcoming Switch 2.
The announcement was made during the Xbox Gamescom showcase, adding Nintendo's latest hardware to the roster of platforms receiving the game in 2024.
Previously available in early access on other platforms, The Rogue Prince of Persia is now slated to arrive on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 "later this year." While PlayStation, Xbox, and PC gamers can already access the full release, Nintendo fans can finally look forward to diving into the series’ signature acrobatic gameplay on their preferred consoles.
An age rating hint earlier this summer fueled speculation, but this week’s presentation brought the first official confirmation for Nintendo platforms.
Developed by Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft, The Rogue Prince of Persia revitalizes the classic franchise with fast-paced, stylized roguelike mechanics.
Players step into the shoes of the Prince, navigating sprawling, procedurally generated levels filled with dynamic platforming challenges and intense combat sequences.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Ubisoft series, the game emphasizes fluid movement, including signature wall runs, dodges, and aerial combos—fundamental elements that define both the franchise and the roguelike genre.
"We wanted to blend the best aspects of Prince of Persia’s platforming heritage with the ‘one more run’ replayability popularized by Dead Cells," a developer statement explained.
Evil Empire aims to capture the excitement of continually uncovering new abilities, synergies, and routes, ensuring that "every run feels unique and rewarding, with new weapons, upgrades, and challenges awaiting each time you dive back in."
The game’s narrative unfolds through non-linear storytelling.
Players awaken as the Prince in an oasis outside the besieged capital city of Persia, urged to save their people from magical invaders.
Each defeat rewinds time, returning the Prince to the oasis for yet another attempt, allowing players to discover additional secrets, characters, and branching paths with every playthrough.
Customization is at the core of gameplay, as The Rogue Prince of Persia offers a broad arsenal of weapons and upgrades that can be adapted mid-run to suit evolving challenges.
Medallions and difficulty modifiers further enrich the experience, with persistent unlocks ensuring a rewarding sense of progression.
With a confirmed Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 release, fans of the franchise—as well as lovers of action roguelikes—can anticipate an engaging new chapter blending classic platforming with modern roguelike innovation.
Keep an eye out for further updates on eShop availability and precise release timing as Evil Empire and Ubisoft prepare to welcome a new wave of players later this year.
