Dbrand Offers Free Killswitch Replacements After Joy-Con Detachment Concerns on Nintendo Switch 2

Dbrand, a well-known manufacturer of gaming accessories, is taking decisive action after facing widespread criticism over its Killswitch protective case for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The controversy began when users reported that the Killswitch case caused the Joy-Con controllers to detach too easily from the Nintendo Switch 2 console, raising concerns about both product reliability and user experience. Initially, Dbrand issued a statement attempting to downplay the issue, attributing the Joy-Con detachment to the way the Nintendo Switch 2 was being held by users.

Some feedback was constructive, while other messages were more hostile, but the consensus is that the user experience should not be compromised by our product.” Dbrand further clarified that, regardless of usage conditions, customers should be able to use the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Killswitch case however they prefer, without risk of Joy-Con detachment.

The company emphasized its understanding with the statement, "Users should have the freedom to hold their console in any way, without experiencing hardware detachment." To address the issue, Dbrand is actively working on two potential solutions.

The first approach involves a complete redesign of the Killswitch accessory, aimed at eliminating any risk of Joy-Con detachment.

The second option would see an improved version of the current product made available, offering enhanced reliability while keeping production feasibility in mind.

Dbrand has committed to communicating its chosen course of action in a new update scheduled for July 10, 2025. Most importantly for customers, Dbrand confirmed that all Killswitch purchasers—regardless of whether they have experienced the detachment issue—are eligible for a free replacement.

The company stated, “We are fully committed to getting everyone replacement Joy-Cons as soon as possible, no matter their experience with the issue.” The Killswitch case issue serves as a critical reminder of the importance of quality assurance in Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, especially as the demand for third-party hardware continues to grow.
