Danganronpa 2×2 Delayed to Early 2027 — Spike Chunsoft Confirms Switch and Switch 2 Release

Spike Chunsoft has confirmed that Danganronpa 2×2, the studio’s high-speed deductive action revival of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, has been delayed from its previously targeted 2026 launch to early 2027.

The title will release both at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

In a producer statement, Shohei Sakakibara explained that development had been moving toward a 2026 release but the team has decided to shift the launch window to early 2027.

Sakakibara said the studio will announce a specific release date later and emphasized that the team is continuing to refine the game to deliver the best possible experience, thanking fans for their patience.

What Danganronpa 2×2 brings

Promoted as the “ultimate comeback,” Danganronpa 2×2 packages two distinct ways to experience the story.

The game includes a thoroughly updated version of the original 2012 scenario from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, presented in an Original mode that preserves the core narrative while delivering enhanced visuals and modernized presentation for current hardware.

Alongside that, Slayhem mode offers a brand-new scenario that uses the same island setting and cast but triggers a different chain of events, producing new victims, culprits, and twists.

Both modes are available from the start of the game.

Spike Chunsoft has stated the new scenario offers a volume of content comparable to the original 2012 release, while the improved original scenario benefits from upgraded production values aimed at modern systems.

Platforms and distribution

Danganronpa 2×2 will be available in physical retail formats and as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.

Spike Chunsoft has not yet provided a precise release date beyond the early 2027 window; further details and scheduling will be shared by the publisher when available.

What to watch for

With the delayed window, Spike Chunsoft appears focused on polishing dual scenarios and visual upgrades for the Switch family of hardware.

Fans of the series and Switch owners should expect more information — including a specific launch date and platform-focused details — from the publisher in the months ahead.
