Bloober Team, renowned for its work on atmospheric horror titles, has officially released a developer diary for its upcoming game, Cronos: The New Dawn.
This highly anticipated third-person survival horror experience is set to launch globally on Nintendo Switch 2, both at retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop, on September 5, 2025.
In the newly shared developer diary, lead writer and narrative designer Grzegorz Like, alongside producer Klaudia Sewera, discuss the ambitious vision shaping Cronos: The New Dawn.
The title immerses players in a bleak, retro-futuristic world, exploring deep narrative themes of time, survival, and the enduring impact of humanity’s choices.
The developers respond to community questions and emphasize that time itself is crafted to be both a tool and the greatest threat in this pulse-pounding adventure.
Cronos: The New Dawn uniquely straddles past and future.
Players are cast as Travelers for the mysterious organization known as the Collective.
They are tasked with traversing a war-torn future in search of rifts that send them back to a 1980s-era Poland ravaged by a catastrophic event dubbed "The Change." The game’s setting is characterized by a stark blend of Eastern European brutalism and retro-futurist technology, providing a richly detailed backdrop for high-stakes survival.
Among the standout gameplay features, Bloober Team highlights the need to tactically navigate a world filled with evolving threats.
Players must scavenge for precious resources, utilize temporal anomalies to overcome obstacles, and engage in combat where quick decision-making is crucial.
Enemy creatures, horrific byproducts of a shattered humanity, present a persistent danger.
Notably, enemies can undergo a grotesque transformation called Merging, absorbing fallen counterparts to become even more formidable.
The only solution is to burn their bodies before they return in stronger forms.
Additionally, the Harvester mechanic introduces a deep narrative dimension: players are tasked with locating key individuals lost in the apocalypse.
By extracting their "Essences," these personalities accompany players into the future—offering tactical benefits but also psychological challenges, as each Essence brings haunting effects to the Traveler’s suit, increasing combat prowess while blurring the lines of sanity.
Cronos: The New Dawn marks a significant entry in Bloober Team’s portfolio, expanding the studio’s reputation for compelling horror narratives and complex, atmospheric gameplay.
With its release on Nintendo Switch 2, the game aims to harness the capabilities of the next-generation hardware, delivering immersive horror and innovative time-manipulation mechanics to a global audience.
As anticipation builds ahead of the September 5, 2025 launch, Cronos: The New Dawn is set to be one of Nintendo’s defining survival horror titles for the upcoming year.
