Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack for Nintendo Switch Canceled in the West Due to Platform Guidelines

XSEED Games Officially Cancels Western Release of Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack for Nintendo Switch Due to Platform Guidelines In August 2023, XSEED Games excited fans of the acclaimed horror franchise with the announcement of the Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack, set to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2025.

The anticipated collection was slated to include four entries from the series — Corpse Party (2001), Book of Shadows, Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash, and Blood Drive.

However, recent developments have brought disappointing news: the compilation will no longer be released in the West due to non-compliance with current Nintendo Switch platform guidelines. Corpse Party has a storied history with Western audiences, with several entries becoming cult favorites since their initial localization.

The Tetralogy Pack's physical and digital releases were highly anticipated, especially as some titles included had never been officially available outside of Japan.

Unfortunately, multiple games in the collection failed to meet the regulatory standards set by the platform, leading to the outright cancellation of both the physical edition and the digital release of previously unlocalized titles. XSEED Games addressed the situation via their official social media channels.

Their statement acknowledged the disappointment of fans, explaining, "We understand how eager fans were for the Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack.

Despite past success with Corpse Party releases on Western console platforms and digital storefronts, we were informed that several titles in the Tetralogy Pack did not adhere to current platform guidelines.

As a result, we are unable to release these games as planned and must cancel both the physical and digital versions for these specific titles." The publisher extended an apology, expressing regret for the confusion and disappointment caused by the cancellation.

This is not the first time content guidelines have affected Switch releases, but it underscores the importance of compliance as platforms evolve their standards to suit diverse regional requirements and audience expectations. Despite this setback, XSEED Games reiterated their commitment to the franchise.

They confirmed ongoing collaboration with original developer MAGES to localize the upcoming Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion.

XSEED pledged to provide updates on the Western release of this highly anticipated sequel, keeping fans engaged and hopeful for future developments. The Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack's cancellation serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in global game publishing, especially when navigating different content regulations.

Fans are encouraged to follow XSEED Games and official Nintendo Direct announcements for the latest news on the Corpse Party series and other upcoming releases on Nintendo Switch and the eShop.
