XSEED Games and Mages have officially announced Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion, the latest installment in the acclaimed Japanese horror franchise, set to launch on Nintendo Switch in Fall 2024.
Renowned for its chilling storytelling and unsettling atmospheres, Corpse Party returns with new innovations that will thrill both longtime fans and newcomers to the series.
Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion introduces players to a fresh cast and an ominous new setting.
The narrative centers on high school students Haruka Nanami, Nemu Takanashi, and Maria Hitsugi as they investigate the eerie Amare Est Vivere Hospital.
Driven by curiosity—and Nemu's quest to grow her streamer following—the trio begins exploring a local urban myth known as “Ayame’s Mercy.” When they inadvertently unleash a decades-old curse, they are thrust into a nightmarish reality where they must evade the vengeful spirit of Ayame Kirishima and face terrifying echoes of the hospital’s past in a desperate bid to dispel the haunting for good.
Marking a major step forward for the series, Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion boasts fully explorable 3D environments—players can navigate the hospital in third- or first-person views.
This perspective elevates immersion, complemented by the franchise’s signature visual novel storytelling, updated graphics, atmospheric binaural audio, and original Japanese voiceovers.
The game spans six main chapters with eight additional scenarios and multiple "Wrong Ends," rewarding exploration and replayability as players uncover the hospital's mysteries and attempt to survive.
As part of the announcement, XSEED confirmed that Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion will release both physically and digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Enthusiasts can also look forward to the "Ayame’s Mercy Edition," a premium package featuring a reversible cover, a 'Save Yourself' LED blue candle reminiscent of the series' in-game save points, a 64-page artbook with behind-the-scenes content, an "Ayame’s Mercy" lenticular art card, an evidence kit with game-inspired artifacts, and a collectible Amare Est Vivere 'Medical Kit' metal case.
The complete set will retail for $80.
The launch of Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion marks the latest achievement for developers Mages, with XSEED continuing its legacy of bringing top-tier Japanese titles to Western audiences.
As of May 30, the first set of official screenshots has been released, offering a glimpse into the game's atmospheric visuals and character designs.
More information, including a confirmed release date, is expected in the coming months.
