Amazon Games and Glowmade have officially announced that their eagerly awaited co-op party platformer, King of Meat, will debut on Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2026.
The news marks a significant update for fans who have followed the project since its original reveal during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024.
The game was also featured in the March 2024 Nintendo Direct, during which it was initially slated for a 2025 release on the original Nintendo Switch.
However, as development progressed, Amazon Games confirmed that there is currently no additional information on a Switch 1 release, leaving its fate uncertain.
King of Meat is an action-packed, hack-and-slash party platformer that puts a whimsical twist on cooperative dungeon-crawling.
The game allows up to four players to team up and tackle a succession of inventive dungeons, crafted both by developers and the community.
Its presentation—a live studio audience cheering on the chaos—injects a unique energy that sets it apart from typical party platformers.
Drawing comparisons to titles like Fall Guys, King of Meat combines frenetic puzzle-platforming with a robust arsenal of weapons and upgrades, adding depth to its slapstick, multiplayer-focused gameplay.
After a wave of anticipation, Amazon Games clarified platform-specific release windows.
While King of Meat is set to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on October 7, 2025, and the Steam version is tracking similarly, Nintendo Switch 2's release window is now officially pegged for early 2026.
Currently, there is no confirmed launch window for the original Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Games has stated they are not providing further information on this version at this time.
To ensure a smooth launch on current-generation consoles, Amazon Games will be conducting a technical test for King of Meat on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Steam from August 23-24, 2024.
The test will kick off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CET, and it aims to validate server performance and collect player feedback ahead of the full release.
Notably, this technical test will not include the Nintendo Switch 2 platform.
Having had the opportunity to go hands-on with an early PC build last year, industry enthusiasts praised King of Meat for its frantic multiplayer action and accessible yet challenging gameplay.
While there had been concerns about performance limitations on the original Nintendo Switch hardware, anticipation for Switch 2's more powerful capabilities suggests that the new platform should deliver a seamless and enjoyable experience for party game fans.
As of now, King of Meat is slated to be among the early wave of third-party titles launching on the Nintendo Switch 2, marking an important collaboration between Amazon Games and Glowmade.
Players hungry for goofy, cooperative action should keep an eye out as King of Meat carves its place on next-generation Nintendo hardware in 2026.
