Nintendo delivered a blockbuster Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

and unveiling an extensive lineup of new games, major franchise updates, and hardware news for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

In over 50 minutes of packed announcements, Nintendo and its worldwide publishing partners confirmed release windows and new features for an impressive roster of upcoming titles. The broadcast was opened by Shigeru Miyamoto, legendary Mario creator, who marked Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary by highlighting a variety of special events and products.

To celebrate, Nintendo confirmed the highly-anticipated release of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, bundled as Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, arriving for Nintendo Switch on October 2, 2025.

Both titles feature enhanced resolution, updated controls supporting button, stick, and motion inputs, new in-game music options, and exclusive 4K support via a future Nintendo Switch 2 update.

Limited edition amiibo figures and a hardcover version of Rosalina’s Storybook were also revealed, set for release in 2026. Miyamoto further shared that Super Mario’s adventures will hit the big screen in a new animated feature titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

This global release is scheduled for April 3, 2026. The Mario universe expansion continues with new titles like Mario Tennis Fever, launching for Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2026, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, arriving in spring 2026.
