Description

7Levels, the Polish indie studio known for their creative takes on action and platforming, has officially announced 'Castle of Heart: Retold' for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Scheduled for launch in summer 2024, this title marks a significant return for the franchise that first debuted on the Switch in 2018. ‘Castle of Heart: Retold’ represents not just a re-release, but a comprehensive overhaul and expansion of the original action platformer.

According to 7Levels, the game will offer substantial improvements across gameplay, visuals, narrative design, and user experience.

The original Castle of Heart received attention for its unique take on platforming, where the player’s character slowly turned to stone, increasing the challenge and urgency.

The 'Retold' edition promises to build on these foundations, modernizing the experience for returning fans and new players alike on both Nintendo Switch systems. Players step again into the role of Svaran, a Slavic warrior condemned by a sorcerer—servant to the evil deity Chernobog—to a cursed fate.

Svaran's quest is to rescue the last priestess of the goddess Mokosh and free the land from tyranny.

The journey spans four visually and thematically distinct Slavic-inspired landscapes, with threats ranging from mythological monsters such as chorts, ghouls, and vodniks, to lethal traps and the relentless blight of the curse itself. Key features for 'Castle of Heart: Retold' include a broad arsenal of melee and ranged weapons—torches, hatchets, javelins, and crossbows—alongside skill-based combat and intense boss battles that hone players’ reflexes and tactics.

The developers have confirmed that the gameplay has been thoroughly rebalanced, with improved platforming, a new user interface, and more responsive controls.

Enhancements to the game's presentation are just as substantial: 7Levels has delivered new character models, refined animations, updated lighting, and remixed music, providing players with an immersive, atmospheric medieval world. On the narrative side, 'Castle of Heart: Retold' offers an entirely rewritten script and remade cutscenes, exploring the story of Svaran and Mira in greater depth.

Players are also tasked with uncovering all the mystical Crystals of Mokosh to access reimagined endings.

This attention to detail, coupled with the technical and artistic upgrades, positions 'Castle of Heart: Retold' as the definitive version of the series for the modern Switch era. With a release window targeted for summer 2024, anticipation is high among action platformer enthusiasts.

The title is set to launch on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, following the momentum generated by fans and critical acclaim of the original release.

A new trailer has been released, offering an early look at the enhanced graphics, revamped gameplay, and evocative Slavic setting. As 7Levels continues to build its reputation for innovative indie titles on Nintendo platforms, 'Castle of Heart: Retold' is poised to become a highlight of the summer release schedule.

Stay tuned for further updates, including a specific launch date and additional gameplay details, as the release draws nearer.
