Update (31 July 2025): Hilkojj Interactive’s indie sim Car Park Capital has secured a publisher.

In an announcement on Bluesky on 31 July 2025, developer Hilko Janssen confirmed that the relaunched MicroProse will publish the game.

MicroProse, a brand best known for franchises such as Civilization, Transport Tycoon and X-COM, was revived in 2019 and maintains ties to original co-founder Wild Bill Stealey.

Background and publisher news

Car Park Capital began life as a university project and has since evolved into a standalone retro-inspired simulation targeting PC via Steam.

The developer, Hilko Janssen of Hilkojj Interactive, announced the MicroProse partnership publicly on Bluesky; MicroProse has released a short promotional trailer to mark its involvement.

No retail release date has been announced for Steam.

What Car Park Capital is and how it’s made

According to the game’s Steam page and developer statements, Car Park Capital is a real-time isometric simulation featuring hundreds of vehicles and citizens with individual behaviours designed to create emergent demand for parking.

The title is highly moddable and is being developed with Blender for 3D models and GIMP and Aseprite for textures.

Janssen is building the game in C++ with Lua scripting on a Linux development environment.

Developer perspective (rewritten)

Janssen has said he initially struggled to decide on the game’s core gameplay, but ultimately embraced a deliberately absurd and comedic take on a parking-simulation premise.

He described the design goal as making the experience chaotic and humorous, drawing inspiration from workplace comedy to shape tone and events.

On the subject of characters and simulation depth, he explained that citizens are given varied behaviors to incentivize player strategies, and the project is built to invite community modding.

Playtesting and next steps

Janssen has confirmed the project remains in early development and that public playtesting windows will be announced through social channels — specifically Twitter, Reddit and the Steam community page — when ready.

MicroProse’s role as publisher should help with visibility and distribution on Steam, though the team has not provided a formal release timeline.

Context and significance

MicroProse’s involvement links Car Park Capital to a legacy of classic simulation and strategy publishing.

For the developer, the partnership offers established publishing experience for an indie team using open creative tools and community-driven mod support.

We will update coverage when MicroProse or Hilkojj Interactive announces a release date or wider platform plans.
