Description

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is set to launch as a day-one release on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and publisher 2K Games along with developer Firaxis Games have shared a major new trailer highlighting the extensive upgrades this edition brings to the platform.

Marking a significant leap from its predecessor on the original Switch, Civilization VII for Nintendo's next-generation console introduces mouse controls, aligning the game’s interface and feel more closely with its acclaimed PC counterpart. Enhanced controls are only the beginning.

Firaxis has confirmed that Civilization VII on Nintendo Switch 2 will feature substantial improvements to both visuals and overall game performance.

Players can expect sharper graphics and smoother gameplay thanks to the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware, supporting larger in-game maps and accommodating more simultaneous participants in multiplayer modes.

The addition of GameChat support further streamlines online communication, making collaborative and competitive matches more engaging for fans of the turn-based strategy classic. Civilization VII first launched on the original Nintendo Switch earlier this year, garnering praise from critics including Alex Olney, who described it as "a monumental achievement in game design and a must-play for enthusiasts of strategy gaming," while noting that its initial release was affected by several technical issues.

Since then, multiple updates have addressed the most prominent bugs, providing a more refined experience for Switch users as Firaxis and 2K continue to support the title. With the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, strategy fans will have access to the most complete and up-to-date version of Civilization VII.

The upgraded port stands alongside other high-profile launch titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0, and Bravely Default, cementing the system’s robust lineup.

The Nintendo eShop will distribute Civilization VII digitally, while physical editions are also expected to be available at launch. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, the transition to Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a watershed moment for Civilization VII.

Between the comprehensive quality-of-life improvements and the return of beloved strategic gameplay, this edition hopes to deliver the most authentic console Civilization experience yet.
