Deltarune Cross-Buy Confirmed for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 Ahead of Launch

Deltarune, the acclaimed RPG from renowned indie developer Toby Fox, is making a significant leap to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and fans have reason to celebrate.

As the official launch for Nintendo Switch 2 approaches, Fox has detailed a cross-buy initiative that ensures players can access Deltarune seamlessly across both Nintendo Switch consoles. In a recent update sent via newsletter, Toby Fox clarified the process for accessing Deltarune on Nintendo's new platform.

Players who have already purchased Deltarune on the original Nintendo Switch—or those who plan to purchase it before the Nintendo Switch 2 launch—will receive the Switch 2 version at no extra charge.

To take advantage of this cross-buy offer, users must use the same Nintendo account on both systems.

Notably, this benefit excludes Japan, where a minimal fee is required due to local regulations. Fox emphasized the value of the cross-buy offer, stating that a single purchase grants access to both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 editions of Deltarune.

Players can switch between the two systems without incurring additional costs, offering flexibility and ease of play.

"For one single price, you'll be able to get both versions of the game," Fox explained, ensuring fans can experience all the game has to offer, including its special content, across compatible hardware. The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 version of Deltarune is scheduled for global release on June 5, with earlier access available in select regions including Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.

The game is priced at $24.99 or the equivalent regional amount, and the eShop listing confirms a file size of approximately 650MB.

Pre-orders for Deltarune on Switch 2 are currently live, and newcomers can try out the free version—featuring Chapter 1 and Chapter 2—on the original Switch now. Additionally, save transfer functionality has been confirmed for Switch 2 players.

Gamers will be able to import their save files from both the demo and full versions on the original Switch system, ensuring a smooth continuation of progress on Nintendo's latest hardware. With this consumer-friendly cross-buy approach and robust support for cross-save, Deltarune demonstrates a clear commitment to player choice and accessibility as it expands onto the Nintendo Switch 2.
