Bubsy 4D Release Date Announced for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: New Sequel Developed by Fabraz

Atari has officially announced the release date for Bubsy 4D, the latest entry in the classic platformer franchise, bringing a fresh installment to both the Nintendo Switch and the highly anticipated Switch 2.

Developed by Fabraz, the team behind indie favorite Demon Turf, Bubsy 4D is set to launch on May 22, 2026, and aims to rejuvenate a series that has seen its share of ups and downs over the years. Bubsy 4D will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.

For collectors and fans, Atari is offering a 'Pawsome Edition' physical release.

This deluxe package includes the game, a collector’s box, poster, artbook, and manual.

Notably, the physical release for Switch 2 will be a full on-cart version, distinguishing it from recent trends favoring digital keys, and echoing approaches seen in releases like Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

The physical edition is priced at $39.99 for Nintendo Switch and $49.99 for the Switch 2. In an official statement, Atari shared, “In Bubsy 4D, players will help Bubsy reclaim the Golden Fleece from the mischievous BaaBots.

The adventure takes players across imaginative fabric- and craft-themed worlds, featuring vibrant design and new gameplay elements.

Expect to run, jump, glide, and roll through a variety of alien planets, each culminating in a challenging BaaBot boss encounter.

Players can unlock stylish outfits, discover hidden blueprints to access new abilities, and compete in online time trials against ghost data, all set to an energetic soundtrack composed by Fat Bard.” Bubsy’s legacy has been a contentious one within the gaming community.

Most recently, Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection garnered mixed reviews, earning a 4/10 from critics in early 2025 and described as a frustrating experience.

However, with Fabraz—renowned for their polish and inventive platforming in Demon Turf—now leading development, anticipation is building that this latest entry will mark a turn for the better in the franchise’s history. Bubsy 4D’s launch on both current and next-generation Nintendo hardware not only highlights Atari’s renewed commitment to classic franchises but also cements Fabraz’s growing reputation as a creative force in the modern platformer genre.

Fans can look forward to additional details at upcoming Nintendo Direct showcases as the release date draws near.
