Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror Reforged Announced for Nintendo Switch and Modern Platforms

Revolution Software has officially announced Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror Reforged, delivering a faithful reimagining of the beloved 1997 adventure sequel for a new generation.

Known for their legacy in narrative-driven games, Revolution Software continues to celebrate the acclaimed Broken Sword franchise with this remaster, which is scheduled to launch in early 2026 for PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror Reforged follows the success of last year’s Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars Reforged.

Praised for its major graphical enhancements and successful modernization, the previous entry set a high standard, earning critical acclaim from outlets such as Push Square, which described it as “about as good as it gets” for a modern remaster. This latest title invites players to once more join George Stobbart and investigative journalist Nico Collard.

Their quest delves into a thrilling narrative of drug cartels and ancient Mayan prophecy—a dramatic journey that gained a loyal following with the original release.

The remastered edition promises upgraded 4K visuals, remastered audio, and new gameplay enhancements tailored to both returning fans and newcomers experiencing the series for the first time on contemporary hardware including the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. In an official press release, Revolution Software’s co-founder and CEO, Charles Cecil, stated: “The Smoking Mirror has always been a fan favorite.

With the Reforged version, we've been able to improve the game with modern technology while keeping true to its roots, ensuring that existing fans and new players alike can enjoy it.” Cecil underscored his excitement for the project, expressing anticipation for audiences to rediscover the adventure. Alongside the digital launch, Revolution Software announced plans for a collector's edition of Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror Reforged.

According to the announcement, the studio intends to launch a Kickstarter campaign to support the release of a physical edition, aiming to offer fans a tangible connection to the classic adventure.

In addition, a Steam page is now live, allowing prospective players to wishlist the game ahead of its release.
