Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2: Full Crossplay Confirmed, But No Split-Screen Support

The latest update, revealed via the game's official FAQ, confirms that Borderlands 4 will enable Nintendo Switch 2 players to seamlessly connect and play with users on Epic Games Store, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

This advancement marks a step forward in cross-platform integration for Nintendo's new hardware, which is expected to contribute to a more unified gaming community and expand player bases across various ecosystems.

Borderlands 4’s crossplay feature on Switch 2 ensures that no matter where players purchase the game—whether through the Nintendo eShop, or other digital storefronts—they will have access to the same core multiplayer experience as those on rival hardware. Following earlier reports that Borderlands 4 would run at 'mostly' 30 frames per second rather than 60fps on Nintendo’s hybrid console, this new confirmation addresses additional audience concerns regarding multiplayer parity.

According to the official FAQ, 'Switch 2 players will have the same exciting Borderlands 4 experience as other platforms minus the split-screen option, and yes, it will have full crossplay with Epic, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S.' It is important to note, however, that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will not include split-screen multiplayer, a feature that has historically been popular among fans of local cooperative play.

While this omission may disappoint some, the inclusion of comprehensive crossplay is likely to be welcomed by those eager to squad up online regardless of platform.

Additionally, Gearbox Software has confirmed that the physical edition of Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 will require a download, indicating a Game-Key Card distribution model.
