Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Port Indefinitely Delayed as Take-Two Shifts Focus

Take-Two Interactive has officially announced that the much-anticipated port of Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been indefinitely delayed.

The decision was revealed in the company's latest quarterly earnings report, confirming that the publisher has removed the title from its list of upcoming releases.

This shift marks a significant change in priorities for Take-Two, as the company now turns its attention toward high-profile projects including WWE 2K26 and Grand Theft Auto 6, the latter of which has not yet been confirmed for a Switch 2 release. Borderlands 4, developed by Gearbox Software and published by Take-Two Interactive, was expected to extend the beloved Borderlands franchise onto Nintendo’s next-generation hybrid platform.

The series, known for its cel-shaded art style and cooperative looter-shooter gameplay, has previously found success on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

Its arrival on the Nintendo Switch 2 was seen as a major step in bringing AAA third-party titles to Nintendo's robust eShop ecosystem. In an official statement provided to Variety, Alan Lewis, spokesperson for Take-Two, explained the reasoning behind the decision.

Lewis stated, in paraphrased terms, that the team faced a challenging choice and ultimately decided to pause development on the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4.

He emphasized that the company remains committed to supporting players by concentrating on post-launch content and overall game optimization.

Lewis also highlighted Take-Two's ongoing collaboration with Nintendo, underscoring excitement for their upcoming titles PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26, both with confirmed support for Nintendo Switch 2.

Aside from the Borderlands 4 delay, Take-Two's earnings discussion touched on other anticipated games in their portfolio.

Rockstar Games, another major label under the Take-Two umbrella, recently made headlines by removing a controversial fan mission from Grand Theft Auto Online.

While Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on track with a projected release date of November 19, 2026, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick affirmed that there are currently no plans for a similar community mission or for a delay, reaffirming their focus on quality and policy compliance. With the indefinite delay of Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2, fans of the Borderlands franchise will have to wait longer to experience the next chapter on Nintendo hardware.

However, Take-Two's commitment to the Switch 2 platform remains clear through its continued partnership with Nintendo and a roster of upcoming releases tailored to the hybrid console’s audience.

For now, Borderlands and Nintendo enthusiasts can look forward to more detailed updates from both companies as new titles like WWE 2K26 and PGA Tour 2K25 prepare for launch on Switch 2’s eShop.
