Bloober Team Discusses Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition and Horror Game Innovation on Nintendo Switch 2

Bloober Team, the acclaimed Polish game development studio recognized for its expertise in psychological horror, recently made headlines with the launch of Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition on Nintendo Switch 2.

This release follows the studio’s day-one launch of Cronos: The New Dawn, further cementing Bloober Team’s dedication to bringing premium horror experiences to Nintendo’s latest hardware.

In an exclusive interview, CEO and founder Piotr Babieno discussed Bloober Team’s journey, reflections on Nintendo platform development, and the studio’s bold vision for future projects. A Pioneer Rooted in Nintendo History Piotr Babieno’s career in the video game industry is deeply intertwined with Nintendo’s legacy.

After graduating, he initially covered cultural topics as a journalist, later pioneering Poland’s first website dedicated exclusively to Nintendo.

He organized the country’s first Nintendo fan conventions, even premiering an early playable demo of Resident Evil 4.

Before founding Bloober Team, Babieno endeavored to create a horror title specifically for Nintendo Wii, with the ambitious project Sadness.

Despite promising pre-production, a lack of development experience led to a shift in focus toward smaller-scale titles after partnering with an investment fund. Enhancing Horror for Nintendo Switch 2 Regarding Bloober Team’s approach to Nintendo hardware, Babieno affirmed, “Nintendo DNA has always been part of our studio’s ethos.

Each time we develop for a Nintendo platform, we fully utilize its unique features to maximize immersion.” He highlighted Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition as prime evidence of their philosophy—the bundling of both Layers of Fear games, enhanced content, and optimizations crafted specifically for Nintendo Switch 2.

The collaboration with Pixel Ant Games ensured that the Switch 2 version sets a new bar for immersive storytelling and atmospheric horror. Innovating for Launch on Switch 2 Babieno shared insights into the challenging process of launching Cronos: The New Dawn as a day-one title for Nintendo Switch 2.

He attributed this achievement to perseverance, strong collaboration with Nintendo, and the dedication of both the internal Bloober Team and external partners like Pixel Ants Games.

“Our teams faced significant technical hurdles as Unreal Engine 5 support was being adapted to Switch 2 hardware.

We remain committed to ongoing improvements, embracing new updates as they become available,” he explained. Project M: An Exclusive Horror Experience Looking ahead, Babieno teased Project M, the Nintendo-exclusive horror game currently in development.

While details remain under wraps, he asserted, “Fans of iconic titles such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Limbo, and Eternal Darkness will feel right at home.

Project M brings a dramatic twist never explored before in the horror genre—a vision possible only on Nintendo hardware.” He credited Nintendo’s ongoing support as instrumental in enabling such ambitious ideas. Porting, Partnerships, and the Future Discussing the possibility of bringing other portfolio titles, like The Medium or Silent Hill 2, to Switch 2, Babieno clarified that such decisions largely rest with publishing partners, specifically referencing Konami.

Although there are no current plans to bring The Medium to Switch 2, the team remains open to future possibilities based on the reception of Layers of Fear: The Final Masterpiece Edition. Industry Perspective Babieno also commented on the current state of horror gaming, observing, “The past few years have seen the genre evolve rapidly, mirroring the darker tones found in society.

We’re witnessing robust growth across all platforms, and 2026 promises to be another strong year for horror games.” As for what the future might bring, Babieno expressed ongoing ambition, including a personal dream to revisit and reimagine the classic Eternal Darkness, or to explore darker narratives in familiar Nintendo franchises like Metroid and The Legend of Zelda. With Bloober Team’s continued innovation on Nintendo Switch 2, players can look forward to even more immersive and genre-defining horror experiences poised to push Nintendo’s platforms into new creative territory.
