Bethesda — the developer behind the Elder Scrolls franchise and a studio now under Microsoft following ZeniMax Media’s acquisition — has officially had The Elder Scrolls VI on its roadmap since it first teased the project in 2018.
According to The Verge’s senior correspondent Tom Warren, sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans say the next mainline entry will be called "The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel." Warren’s report adds that the game is expected to be set in Hammerfell, a province already known to series fans from The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online.
Warren paraphrased sources saying the entry will focus on the deeper history of the Elder Scrolls universe and aim to illuminate the mysteries surrounding the titular ancient artifacts.
Warren also reported that an official reveal could come as soon as next month, a timing that would coincide with the 15th anniversary of Skyrim’s original launch on November 11, 2011.
Those claims remain tied to unnamed sources and have not been officially confirmed by Bethesda or Microsoft.
What is verifiable: Skyrim remains one of the most enduring releases in modern gaming and was originally released on November 11, 2011.
Skyrim has been ported to multiple platforms over the years, including a Nintendo Switch version released in 2017 that brought the game to Nintendo’s console and Nintendo eShop.
Bethesda Game Studios first acknowledged work on The Elder Scrolls VI with a teaser shown in 2018; since then, public updates from the studio have been limited.
Bethesda and ZeniMax were acquired by Microsoft in a deal that completed in March 2021, a corporate change that places the studio within Microsoft’s larger first-party portfolio.
Bethesda has also continued to support and re-release entries in the Elder Scrolls catalog across platforms, but the developer has not provided a release date, confirmed target platforms, or an official trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI.
For now, coverage centers on The Verge’s report and the longstanding facts about the franchise’s history.
Fans and industry observers should expect any definitive confirmation — including an official title, platforms, and release window — to come directly from Bethesda or Microsoft through their customary channels.
