In a move that celebrates the holiday spirit and supports travelers during the busiest time of the year, Nintendo has announced an extended National StreetPass Weekend for Nintendo 3DS users.
Running from December 24 through January 4, the event gives fans over a week and a half to take advantage of increased StreetPass connectivity at more than 29,000 participating Nintendo Zone locations throughout North America.
For many portable gaming enthusiasts, the Nintendo 3DS remains a beloved travel companion, especially during lengthy trips by plane, train, or car.
Recognizing this, Nintendo has made it easier than ever for users to connect, trade, and play by extending the holiday-specific StreetPass event far beyond a typical weekend timeframe.
These special weekends have become an anticipated tradition for 3DS communities, fostering player interaction and engagement across the globe.
During the National StreetPass Weekend, Nintendo 3DS owners can visit any Nintendo Zone hotspot to receive up to six new StreetPasses at once, increasing their chances to meet fellow fans, complete game puzzles, and unlock new content in compatible titles.
The program is designed to encourage portable play and community connection, key differentiators that have contributed to the platform’s enduring popularity since its initial launch in 2011.
A Nintendo representative remarked that the company is keenly aware of the unique role the 3DS plays during holiday travels, stating that the extended StreetPass event is intended to make the journeys of players more enjoyable and to foster memorable connections during the season.
With a robust library of titles still available on the eShop and ongoing support for StreetPass features, the Nintendo 3DS ecosystem remains active, even as new hardware like the Nintendo Switch continues to dominate headlines.
Since its release, the Nintendo 3DS has sold tens of millions of units worldwide, with an engaged community that values shared experiences and spontaneous in-person connections through features like StreetPass.
By continuing to host events like the National StreetPass Weekend, Nintendo demonstrates its commitment to fostering that sense of camaraderie and fun, ensuring that the Nintendo 3DS remains a part of players’ holiday traditions for years to come.
