The legacy of the Commodore Amiga continues to thrive as Apollo Computer unveils the V4 Apollo A6000—a new system proudly billed as the most powerful Amiga 68k compatible computer ever built.
This milestone arrives at a crucial moment in retro computing, just as the Amiga community marks the platform’s 40th anniversary.
The resurgence of the Commodore brand has been a frequent headline recently, mainly due to YouTuber Christian Simpson’s acquisition of related Commodore trademarks and intellectual properties.
However, the Amiga name and rights, which have changed hands several times following Commodore’s bankruptcy in 1994, remain a separate chapter.
Despite these transitions, the Amiga development scene has shown remarkable resilience and innovation, sustaining the platform’s passionate following for decades.
Now, Apollo Computer’s V4 Apollo A6000 reimagines the Amiga for contemporary users, fusing the legendary spirit of the original with groundbreaking V4 AC68080 performance.
According to the official Apollo A6000 site, the goal was to seamlessly blend the iconic past with modern advancements: "We have fused the essence of the classic Amiga with state-of-the-art V4 performance, crafting a system that pays tribute to its storied heritage while elevating user expectations.
The Apollo A6000 is designed with unmatched precision, offering both nostalgia and cutting-edge capability for newcomers and seasoned Amiga enthusiasts alike."
Echoing the compact form factor of the classic A600, the V4 Apollo A6000 is constructed on the proven Apollo V4 platform, renowned for its performance, compatibility, and versatility.
The machine is equipped with 2GB of RAM, dual SD card slots, a USB-C power connector, analog audio output, an expansion bay, and a mechanical keyboard featuring Cherry MX switches.
The designers highlight the system’s robust technical foundation: "By retaining the high-performance Apollo 68080 CPU, comprehensive RTG graphics, digital outputs, and full SAGA chipset support, the V4 Apollo A6000 pushes the legacy of the V4 even further to address the demands of today’s users."
To commemorate four decades of Amiga innovation, Apollo Computer is offering a limited run of 40 Apollo A6000 First Edition units.
Each computer in this initial batch is individually numbered from A01 to A40 and includes the genuine signatures of its creators inside the case.
In the words of Apollo Computer, "Every Apollo A6000 First Edition will be utterly distinct, marked by its unique serial number and authentic developer signatures.
This exclusive release will not be repeated."
The V4 Apollo A6000 First Edition is priced at 999.60 Euros, targeting dedicated Amiga fans and collectors seeking a blend of retro charm and leading-edge technology.
As interest in vintage computing and Amiga hardware continues to surge, the Apollo A6000 reaffirms the platform’s enduring influence and capacity for contemporary relevance.
