A newly revealed compilation celebrating the Alien Breed franchise will arrive across modern platforms later this year, with Commodore International announced as publisher and Antstream handling development.
The collection — unveiled during the Pixel Arcadia showcase — brings together six classic Team17 titles in a single package titled Alien Breed: 35th Anniversary.
The package collects the series entries that defined the franchise during its early 1990s run: Alien Breed (1991), Alien Breed Special Edition '92 (1992), Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (1993), Alien Breed: Tower Assault (1994), Alien Breed 3D (1995) and Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds (1996).
Antstream, the studio behind a subscription-based retro gaming service, is credited with modernizing these releases for current platforms.
According to publisher materials distributed at Pixel Arcadia, the collection is intended to mark the franchise’s 35th anniversary by delivering the complete early-era library and a catalogue of extras optimised for today’s systems.
The announcement described the release as the definitive way to experience the series’ original titles on modern devices.
The release will support multiple control schemes and play modes.
Dual-stick and mouse-and-keyboard controls are included, alongside local cooperative play and an online co-op “Rush” mode.
New additions listed in the announcement comprise a Horde mode and a Virtual Museum feature, which aggregates developer retrospectives, concept art galleries, previously cancelled projects, the original soundtrack, timeline videos and a digital comic.
Quality-of-life options will include screen filters, save states and rumble support.
Commodore’s involvement is notable: promotional material indicates Alien Breed will be the first title announced under Commodore’s renewed publishing efforts following the company’s recent resurrection by Christian Simpson.
The company has also released an FPGA-based recreation of the Commodore 64, and the Alien Breed series’ origins on the Amiga align historically with Commodore’s legacy.
