Description

Nintendo is set to enhance the gameplay experience for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom with the introduction of the Zelda Notes app for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

The original games, both critical and commercial successes, became iconic entries on the Nintendo Switch, praised for their open-world design and innovative mechanics.

However, the weapon durability system—where equipment could break with repeated use—sparked debate among fans, leading many to request changes or additions to the system in future updates. Responding to ongoing community feedback, Nintendo has confirmed that the new Zelda Notes app launching alongside the enhanced Switch 2 Editions will include a feature allowing players the option to repair weapons.

Instead of the strictly limited repair option previously found in Tears of the Kingdom—which required using a Rock Octorok for a one-time item restoration—the Zelda Notes app will enable equipment repairs as part of its daily bonus reward system.

Players can log in daily via the app to earn a variety of randomized bonuses, with weapon repair listed among perks like health recovery, stamina boosts, energy cell recharge, and special in-game meals.

The lineup of potential bonuses rotates on a daily basis, offering fresh incentives for continued engagement with the app. This new feature was highlighted through content shared by respected YouTuber Zeltik, who detailed the expanded functionality coming to the Zelda Notes platform.

Beyond equipment repairs, Zelda Notes will integrate a range of new capabilities including a GPS-like navigation tool to help players locate shrines and hidden Koroks, both core components of exploration in the Zelda series.

Fans will also enjoy exclusive commentary from Princess Zelda herself, providing fresh narrative elements not present in the original Nintendo Switch releases. Further enriching the experience, the Zelda Notes app is set to include an achievements system, options for in-game item sharing, and additional quality-of-life improvements.

Nintendo is positioning the app as a comprehensive companion for its landmark titles on the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have set record sales milestones since their original launches, and these new features aim to extend their legacy on updated platforms. The Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom launch globally on June 5, 2025.

Nintendo clarified this week that all upgrade content will come pre-loaded on physical cartridges, ensuring players can immediately access the expanded functionality, including the innovative Zelda Notes integration, on day one.
