Nintendo used its The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct to officially unveil a limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 system and a themed Pro Controller.

The announcement coincides with the franchise’s 40th anniversary in 2026 — The Legend of Zelda first debuted in 1986 — and was presented as part of Nintendo’s digital showcase format, Nintendo Direct.

According to Nintendo’s presentation, the themed hardware and controller will be released on October 29, 2026.

Nintendo said everything shown in the Direct will be available starting that date.

The company’s statement follows an earlier leak last month that had already revealed images and details of the products ahead of Nintendo’s confirmation.

The special Nintendo Switch 2 system features franchise-inspired colors and designs applied to the console itself as well as the dock and Joy-Con controllers.

Nintendo also showed a matching Pro Controller that mirrors the same visual aesthetic.

During the Direct, Nintendo presented the hardware as commemorative items created for The Legend of Zelda’s milestone anniversary.

This announcement is part of a broader slate of Zelda-related programming and product activity tied to the 40th anniversary celebrations.

Nintendo has historically used Nintendo Direct broadcasts to coordinate timing for major hardware and franchise-related releases, and the company framed the themed Switch 2 and Pro Controller as limited-edition offerings aligned with those plans.

For fans tracking official releases, Nintendo’s confirmation on availability removes uncertainty following the earlier leak.

Retail and distribution details for the themed Switch 2 system and Pro Controller will be provided by Nintendo through its official channels and retailer partners as the October release date approaches.

The Legend of Zelda remains one of Nintendo’s flagship franchises, and the 40th Anniversary Direct offered a mix of commemorative hardware and additional announcements.

Nintendo’s official timeline places the themed hardware and accessories in stores on October 29, 2026, making them among the headline items for the franchise’s anniversary lineup.
