The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 — Nov. 5 Release, Features, and 40th Anniversary Plans

Nintendo used its Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct presentation to lay out a broad slate of releases, hardware and events tied to the franchise’s milestone. Series producer Eiji Aonuma led the presentation and debuted the first gameplay of a fully remade The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, confirming the title will launch on Nov. 5. Nintendo also published a central information hub for anniversary activities at zelda40th.nintendo.com. Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 is described as a comprehensive remake: visuals have been rebuilt, cutscenes are fully voiced, orchestral music replaces the original score in parts, camera and movement controls have been reworked for modern hardware, and performance improvements include faster load times and smoother frame pacing. Nintendo said the first print run of the physical edition will feature special textured foil cover art while supplies last. Ahead of the game’s release, Nintendo will sell a limited Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system and anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller options starting Oct. 29. Both the system and controller packages will include Triforce-themed design elements and select bundles include carrying cases and display stands. Accessories and collectibles were also announced. Two ocarinas are planned for later this year: a playable model and an electric HORI ocarina that can trigger notes and songs at the push of a button. Nintendo indicated the Nintendo Switch 2’s built-in microphone can capture a player humming a learned melody and prompt Link to perform that tune in-game. New amiibo for Young Link and Young Zelda are slated for 2027, and the previously announced Mineru’s Construct amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases Sept. 17. The company is expanding ZELDA NOTES via the Nintendo Switch App for compatible smart devices. New features for the Ocarina of Time edition include a chronological Today’s Record of play activity, a Gossip Quest location-hint system, a touchscreen Play Ocarina mode with QR sharing for custom scores, and an Ocarina of Time quiz with over 2,000 questions. Anniversary programming extends beyond software and peripherals. A Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series will tour globally next year with stops in Tokyo (January), Chicago (February), London (April) and Melbourne (May). The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will offer special ticket designs starting Sept. 9, new photo opportunities from Nov. 5, and the Super Family Restaurant will open in fall 2026 as part of yearlong museum celebrations. Nintendo also highlighted partner products: LEGO’s 1,750-piece The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link & Epona set and the Hasbro Legend of Zelda Electronic Master Sword are due in spring 2027. Finally, Nintendo confirmed the live-action film The Legend of Zelda opens in theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027.
