Nintendo has officially enhanced the gameplay experience in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Among the most anticipated updates is the limited weapon repair feature, introduced through the brand-new Zelda Notes app—addressing long-standing feedback from the Zelda community regarding weapon durability.
Since its first implementation in Breath of the Wild, weapon durability has sparked heated discussions among fans and critics alike.
While proponents appreciate the added strategy and experimentation that the system brings to combat and exploration, many players have found frequent weapon breakage to be a source of frustration.
This dichotomy has persisted even through the massive commercial success of both titles—Breath of the Wild has sold over 30 million units worldwide since its release in 2017, and Tears of the Kingdom launched to critical acclaim and strong sales in 2023.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition's release, Nintendo introduces the Zelda Notes app as a companion tool.
This app includes various new features, but perhaps most notably, it enables players to repair damaged equipment via a Daily Bonus mechanic.
The repair option is accessed through a roulette-style feature within Zelda Notes, which users can spin once per day.
Alongside potential rewards such as meals, health restoration, and energy cell recharges, the chance to repair a weapon is considered rare and is designated as a top-tier prize in the mix.
This feature was highlighted by content creator Zeltik and reported by Eurogamer, who detailed how the roulette’s three-star equipment repair reward is not always accessible—potentially leaving players with several days between repair opportunities.
This approach provides some relief to fans critical of weapon degradation, but it does not fundamentally alter the established gameplay balance.
As clarified by Nintendo, equipment repair through Zelda Notes is purely an additional bonus and does not undermine the core mechanics that define combat and resource management in both games.
Beyond quality-of-life bonuses, the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom bring significant technical enhancements, including improved frame rates and higher resolution visuals.
Players can also take advantage of new features like voice navigation, a memory log, and achievement tracking, all facilitated through the Zelda Notes app.
By introducing these additions, Nintendo addresses fan feedback while preserving the gameplay integrity of two of its most celebrated titles.
The Zelda Notes app is poised to become a valuable companion for new and returning players exploring Hyrule on the latest Nintendo Switch hardware.
