Playtonic, the studio founded by former Rare developers and best known for Yooka-Laylee (2017), has released a major performance update for Yooka-Replaylee on Nintendo Switch 2.
The enhanced remaster aims to deliver a smoother platforming experience by adding a new Performance Mode that targets 60 frames per second, alongside an option to retain the original visual presentation.
According to Playtonic's announcement, the update introduces a Performance Mode that lowers output resolution in order to increase framerate to 60 fps, improving responsiveness and animation smoothness for platforming sequences.
Playtonic also made the original presentation available under a new Fidelity Mode, which preserves the higher-resolution visuals at the 30 fps framerate the title shipped with.
In journalistic terms, Playtonic explained that the Performance Mode sacrifices some graphical resolution to provide a snappier, more responsive frame rate, while Fidelity Mode maintains the game's original visual fidelity and frame pacing.
The studio framed the change as a response to player requests for more fluid gameplay, noting that toggles between performance and visual fidelity have become a common option on modern consoles.
The patch for Yooka-Replaylee is available now on the Nintendo eShop and should automatically download when players start the game.
Yooka-Replaylee is currently listed on sale for $23.99, giving players an opportunity to pick up the remaster while the discounted price is active.
This update follows industry trends where platforms and developers offer mode toggles to prioritize either frame rate or graphical detail.
For fans of classic 3D platformers, the Performance Mode can materially change the feel of movement and camera responsiveness in a game originally designed around a 30 fps baseline.
