As the countdown continues toward the July 11, 2024 launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on Nintendo Switch, the global skateboarding community raises hopes for what’s next in this iconic franchise.
The upcoming Switch and as-yet undated Switch 2 versions mark another milestone in Activision’s celebrated revival of Tony Hawk titles, a journey that has rejuvenated old-school fans and introduced new audiences to the classic Pro Skater experience.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk addressed whether additional remasters—specifically the much-requested Tony Hawk’s Underground games—could be on the horizon.
Hawk highlighted his interest in further remastering efforts, saying he continually campaigns to keep the series alive.
However, he made clear that such decisions are out of his hands, emphasizing, "Ultimately, it’s up to Activision.
I do all I can to advocate, but the big picture is guided by the publisher." This realistic outlook tempers expectations while keeping the conversation alive among fans and industry observers.
For now, neither Activision nor Tony Hawk has confirmed any plans for a Tony Hawk’s Underground remaster.
Hawk clarified that there have been no discussions regarding Underground at Activision so far, and suggested that future remasters would hinge on the financial performance of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4.
“We haven’t even released this game yet,” he explained, underscoring that Activision’s next moves will likely depend on how well the newest title performs post-launch.
Tony Hawk’s Underground and its sequel originally launched for the Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance in the early 2000s, departing from the series’ traditional time-based scoring in favor of story-driven gameplay.
Their legacy continues to resonate within the skateboarding genre, and interest in remasters remains strong among longtime supporters.
The new edition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is set to update classic content, including replacing Career Mode with the series’ trademark time-limit approach.
While this shift recaptures the arcade feel of the originals, some in the community are looking forward to potentially more progressive remasters—such as the open-ended structure showcased in the Underground series.
For now, any news of future Tony Hawk’s Underground remasters is speculative.
Yet, the enduring passion of the fanbase, the franchise’s storied history on Nintendo hardware, and continued commercial success all play pivotal roles.
Should Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 perform strongly on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the path may be paved for more remastered classics from Activision in the future.
