Sega and renowned developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially announced the release date and a host of new features for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.
This expansive launch promises not only a full-scale remake of Yakuza 3 but also introduces a brand-new narrative experience with Dark Ties, cementing the franchise’s growing legacy on Nintendo platforms.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 will leverage the advanced capabilities of Switch 2, delivering players an enhanced combat system and deeper customization options.
Returning protagonist Kazuma Kiryu now has access to "Dragon of Dojima: Kiwami Style Combat," featuring the most attack techniques ever seen in the series.
The combat is further enriched with new Heat Abilities, as well as fan-favorite moves reminiscent of the original Yakuza 3.
Another highlight, the "Ryukyu Style Combat," draws inspiration from Okinawan martial arts.
This battle style enables Kiryu to wield traditional weapons like the tinbe and rochin, as well as incorporate dynamic attacks using sai, tonfa, nunchaku, and more.
Players can unlock Kiryu’s full fighting potential by filling his gauge and activating the Dragon Boost, while completing missions and training unlocks a more versatile and personalized skill set than ever before.
Accompanying the main game, Dark Ties offers a gripping narrative expansion.
Set in 2007, the story centers on Yoshitaka Mine, a character who grapples with betrayal and seeks meaning amid Kamurocho’s chaotic underworld.
After forming a partnership with Tsuyoshi Kanda from the Tojo Clan’s Nishikiyama Family, Mine gets swept into the clan’s deepening intrigues and, as events unfold, begins to develop a true sense of brotherhood.
The narrative deep-dive builds towards a pivotal meeting with Daigo Dojima, adding emotional depth and complexity to Mine's journey.
Dark Ties also features innovative combat mechanics.
Players can exploit Mine’s elegant shoot-boxing inspired fighting style to identify and attack defensive weaknesses, executing precise, stylish combos.
By building up a special Shackled Heart meter, Mine can trigger "Dark Awakening Mode," unleashing his full combat prowess with dramatically altered battle animations and powerful new Heat Actions—including devastating barrages and iconic finishing moves.
These ability upgrades not only enhance Mine’s fighting repertoire but also unlock exclusive mid-air techniques and further boost the capabilities of Dark Awakening.
The upcoming release continues Sega’s strong support for Nintendo Switch 2.
Fans can already experience Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut on the platform, with Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 launching on November 13, 2025.
Notably, the first Yakuza Kiwami is also available for the original Nintendo Switch, ensuring series newcomers and franchise veterans alike can enjoy the saga on their preferred hardware.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties for Nintendo Switch 2 marks a major milestone for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega, expanding the Yakuza universe with cutting-edge gameplay enhancements and narrative depth.
With a confirmed release date, enhanced combat systems, and broad franchise support on Switch platforms, this launch is positioned as a must-watch event for action-adventure fans and Yakuza loyalists alike.
