Super Mario Party Jamboree Holds Top Spot in Japan After Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Reveal The latest Famitsu sales charts for the week of April 7 to April 13, 2025, highlight a dominant performance by Super Mario Party Jamboree, which once again claims the No.

1 position in Japan’s weekly software rankings.

The surge in sales follows the official announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for the title, revealed during the highly anticipated Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation.

Super Mario Party Jamboree, developed and published by Nintendo, was initially released on October 17, 2024.

In the reported week, it sold an additional 7,041 physical units, pushing its cumulative Japanese retail sales to an impressive 1,264,884 copies.

This marks a 39% decline from the previous week, yet the party game remains firmly entrenched at the top of the leaderboard, a testament to its enduring popularity as well as the boost from the forthcoming next-generation hardware upgrade. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, another major first-party Nintendo release, debuted on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025.

With 3,774 units sold this week, its lifetime retail total now stands at 101,429 copies.

The RPG continues to maintain a presence among Japan’s best-selling new releases, reflecting the robust appeal of the Xenoblade franchise. The rest of the top software chart is dominated by Nintendo Switch titles, featuring perennial favorites such as Minecraft (5,208 units, cumulative 3,857,392), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4,299 units, cumulative 6,303,574), Animal Crossing: New Horizons (3,550 units, cumulative 8,106,663), and Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate (2,543 units, cumulative 5,745,219).

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds for PlayStation 5 is the sole non-Switch title in the top ten, securing second place with 6,149 units, bringing its total to 793,546 copies. On the hardware front, Japanese console sales experienced a notable decline both week-on-week and year-on-year.

The Nintendo Switch family, comprising the standard model, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, led the market with combined weekly sales of 25,035 units.

Despite the slowdown, the Switch continues to outperform all competitors and has amassed a lifetime sales figure of 35,555,391 units in Japan alone, further cementing its status as one of Nintendo’s most successful platforms. By comparison, the PlayStation 5 sold 8,866 units across all models, with lifetime sales reaching 6,797,163.

Xbox Series consoles remain niche in the Japanese market, posting just 196 unit sales for the week.

Nintendo’s continued dominance in both software and hardware charts reiterates the publisher's strong support for the Switch platform, even as anticipation builds for the next generation.

With new content updates, major franchise expansions, and robust sales figures, Nintendo’s position in the Japanese gaming market remains unrivaled.
