Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Now on Nintendo eShop

Nintendo has released Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition digitally on the Nintendo eShop, bringing Monolith Soft's celebrated JRPG to Nintendo's next-generation hardware.

The Switch 2 Edition upgrades the Definitive Edition experience originally released for Nintendo Switch in May 2020, adding higher-resolution output, performance improvements, and new in-game content.

Nintendo will also distribute a physical edition through retailers starting 30 July 2026.

Available purchase options and pricing

- Full digital purchase of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is listed at £58.99 on the Nintendo eShop.

- Owners of the existing Nintendo Switch Definitive Edition can buy an upgrade pack priced at £7.99.

Performance and presentation

Nintendo states that the Switch 2 Edition runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in TV mode, while handheld operation runs at full HD 1080p at 60 frames per second.

This results in smoother frame rates and higher visual fidelity across the main game and the included Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected expansion.

New content and gameplay additions

The Switch 2 Edition introduces the Ether Jet, a high-speed vehicle that accelerates traversal across the Bionis and Mechonis and unlocks new racing-focused activities.

Players can compete in the Nopon Grand Prix, a series of timed and score-based races scattered throughout the open world that reward unlockables and cosmetics.

Completing the quest titled 'world-changing whatchamajig', available from Chapter 4 onward, unlocks access to the Ether Jet.

Additional updates include two new outfits unlockable per party member through Nopon Grand Prix participation and fully voiced Heart-to-Heart scenes in both English and Japanese, expanding the game's presentation and character moments.
