Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft have confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will arrive digitally on June 30, 2026, with a separate physical release scheduled for October 1, 2026.

The announcement accompanies a new overview trailer released ahead of the launch that outlines technical upgrades and additional content for the port.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 originally launched for Nintendo Switch in 2017 and is now being rebuilt for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware with performance and visual improvements.

The Switch 2 Edition will support 60 frames per second, offer 4K resolution in TV mode and full HD in handheld mode, and deliver enhanced resolution and frame rates for in-game cutscenes.

The overview trailer also shows updated visual details across environments and character models.

The Switch 2 Edition adds gameplay and cosmetic content.

New outfit designs for central characters Pyra and Mythra are included, and Nintendo confirmed these outfits will appear both in exploration and in cutscenes.

The release introduces a new Merc Assault mode that lets players directly control up to six Blades during combat.

The port also adds a new rare Blade named MOMO who can switch between light and dark forms.

In journalistic terms, Nintendo summarized the release as an enhanced edition that modernizes visuals and performance while adding new content: the Switch 2 Edition improves visuals and cutscenes, introduces fresh outfit options for Pyra and Mythra, expands combat options with the Merc Assault system to control multiple Blades, and brings a new rare Blade, MOMO, with dual forms.

Existing owners of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will have a paid upgrade path to move to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and pre-orders for that upgrade are now live on Nintendo platforms.

The original Switch title also received a recent update, bringing the game to Version 3.0.0 ahead of the Switch 2 release.

With a June 30 digital launch and an October 1 physical release, the Switch 2 Edition positions Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as a high-profile legacy remaster for Nintendo's next hardware.
