Barry "Epoch" Topping, known for his work on the shoot 'em up Birdcage, has released Adventure Diary, a nine-track album of original arrangements drawn from Konami's 1997 Nintendo 64 title Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon.
The original game shipped in Japan in 1997 and reached North America and the UK in 1998; Topping's project focuses on the game's dungeon themes rather than its better-known motifs.

The album is available now on Bandcamp under a pay-what-you-want model, allowing listeners to download for free or contribute to support the artist.
Rather than revisiting the franchise's most instantly recognizable cues — such as the opening theme or the vocal-led "I Am Impact!" — Topping deliberately chose to arrange the game's lesser-known dungeon pieces.
Goemon researcher Project Goemon singled out that approach, noting that covers that omit the main theme are rare and praising the album's energy, original elements, and the decision to sequence tracks like a live set.
Topping explained that the project began as a technical exercise in transcription and production.
He said he dismantled the original tracks to locate source sounds and reconstruct how the music was assembled, then applied his own production style to expand the arrangements while aiming to honor the original compositions.
He also noted that, apart from some percussion, the album's sounds were drawn either from the original source synthesizers and sample libraries or recreated in modern synthesisers to mimic the original timbres.
Those following retro and preservation scenes will recognize this approach: careful deconstruction and faithful reconstruction to bring classic game music up to contemporary production standards.
The release arrives amid ongoing fan interest in classic N64-era soundtracks and occasional reissues on modern storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop and announcements that often appear during Nintendo Direct presentations.
