Shark Jump has officially unveiled Winds of Viridia, a new action-adventure built for Nintendo Switch 2, with the studio announcing a full launch slated for early 2027 and a free demo released today.
The reveal arrived alongside other Indie World Showcase coverage in October 2026, positioning Winds of Viridia as one of the next-generation indie highlights for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.
Background and release window
Winds of Viridia is presented as a single-player action-adventure that tasks players with restoring balance to a once-great civilization.
Shark Jump confirmed the game will arrive in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2 and also made a playable demo available immediately, giving players an early look at core systems and movement mechanics ahead of the full release.
Gameplay and core features
According to Shark Jump’s announcement, players will explore the valley around the towering Grantree, encounter grand beasts, and investigate what is driving local creatures into a frenzied state.
The studio outlined traversal as a central pillar: characters can run, roll, slide, flip, grapple, and use environmental plants to jump higher and launch further, all while moving through handcrafted mountain glades, hidden grottos and vast ancient ruins.
The developer described combat as fast and agile, with dozens of unique creatures affected by the frenzy and a slate of fearsome boss encounters including gigantic beasts, living statues and ancient guardians.
Players will also be able to befriend a mothbug companion to assist with exploration and combat, aid residents of the Sanctuary hub, and find fellow explorers deeper in the wilds.
Progression and audio
Winds of Viridia will feature collectible relics—referred to as totems—that can be combined to customize playstyles.
Shark Jump emphasized discovery and customization as key player incentives.
The announcement also confirmed the soundtrack will include a sweeping orchestral score from composers Kevin Penkin and Christopher Larkin, both noted for their work in game and media music.
