Description

Playtonic Games has unveiled a 24-minute gameplay showcase for the highly anticipated Yooka-Replaylee, providing fans with a first look at how the definitive remastered edition of their beloved platformer will run on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The video, shared via the developer’s official social media channels, highlights the enhancements made possible by the next-generation Nintendo hardware and further cements the studio’s commitment to delivering a polished experience at launch. In an official statement, Playtonic Games confirmed that Yooka-Replaylee will run at a consistent 30 frames per second on Nintendo Switch 2, both in handheld and docked configurations.

The developers explained that, due to limited access to development kits, achieving higher frame rates will be explored post-launch: “To ensure players receive a visually excellent and smooth experience, Yooka-Replaylee is targeting 30fps across all Switch 2 modes at release.

We are actively investigating the addition of a performance mode for an update in the future.” Addressing inquiries about a pre-release demo, Playtonic clarified: “While we have received significant interest in a playable demo for Nintendo Switch 2, we regret that we cannot provide one ahead of launch.

However, plans are in place to make a demo available after the official release.” Yooka-Replaylee is billed as the definitive remaster and enhanced version of the original 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee.

Building on the indie hit’s reputation as a collectible-rich, open-world adventure, this edition introduces a host of new features designed to further engage players.

Among the highlights are an overhauled story presentation delivered through a dynamic storybook format, doubled collectible content with expanded challenges, and an upgraded moveset for Yooka and Laylee that brings in fresh combos for satisfying platforming. Additional enhancements include new camera controls, the ability to fast-travel via bookmarks, the introduction of a unique currency called Q.U.I.D.S, and the return of Vendi's Tonics with expanded customization options.

Players will also find an isometric platforming mode starring Rextro, more hidden arcade games, and full orchestral arrangements of the soundtrack by acclaimed composers David Wise, Grant Kirkhope, and Steve Burke, supplemented by new tracks from Dan Murdoch and Matt Griffin.

Yooka-Replaylee is slated for worldwide release both physically and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2025.

This marks a significant milestone for Playtonic Games and their celebrated characters as they join the next generation of Nintendo hardware.

As the team readies the final build, anticipation is high for returning fans and newcomers eager to experience the ultimate version of this indie platforming gem.
