SEGA has officially announced that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., the highly-anticipated remaster of its iconic 3D fighting franchise, is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2.
This latest version of the legendary fighter will include robust cross-play functionality, enabling players on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam to compete seamlessly online.
Additionally, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
will feature rollback netcode across all supported platforms, ensuring a smooth and competitive online experience for the global fighting game community.
The news was unveiled during the recent VF Direct 2025 Spring event, where Siji Aoko, the long-standing producer behind Virtua Fighter Projects, addressed the community’s requests: “We appreciate everyone's patience, and are excited to finally announce the digital release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
for Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”
Aoko emphasized the development team’s commitment to providing a multiplatform experience, stating that feedback gathered through official VF Discord channels and the broader fanbase drove their decision.
“We’ve listened to your calls for multiplatform support.
We want Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
players on every platform to enjoy the game together, so cross-play will be available at launch.
The rollback netcode, first introduced in the Steam version, will now be implemented across all platforms to further enhance the cross-play experience.”
SEGA also teased that the Nintendo Switch 2 release will be more than just a port, confirming that additional content and features are planned.
Details will be shared in future updates, but players can expect an upgraded experience that builds on the core foundation established on other platforms.
“Whether you’re new to the series or a seasoned competitor, we’re eager for everyone to jump back into the ring and connect with fighters from around the world,” said Aoko.
