Nintendo has outlined a slate of major releases, service updates and limited-time events timed for late August, headlined by Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 and the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 on both current and next-gen Switch hardware. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition — the enhanced bundle of the award-winning action RPG from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco — is scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on Aug. 28. Nintendo states the Tarnished Edition includes the base Elden Ring game plus the SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE expansion, along with additional weapons, armor and a new Torrent appearance customization. Pre-orders for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition are available now on the Nintendo eShop. Also launching in late August, METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 brings together entries from the long-running stealth-action franchise. The collection, which includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, will release for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on Aug. 27, with pre-orders active now on the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo Music has added more Free Roam playlists tied to Mario Kart World. New tracks for Free Roam with Super Mario 3D Land and Free Roam with Super Mario 3D World are available now via Nintendo Music on Nintendo Switch Online; Nintendo directs players to its site for full details. Donkey Kong Bananza players have two time-limited opportunities this month. The Lagoon Dash event for the DK Island & Emerald Rush paid DLC runs from Aug. 25 at 1 a.m. PT through Sept. 1 at 12:59 a.m. PT and allows players to complete challenges and collect in-game statues. The broader DK Challenge runs until 12:59 a.m. PT on Sept. 1 and tasks Nintendo Switch 2 players with an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to complete a set of challenges across Donkey Kong Bananza and select NES, Super NES and Game Boy Donkey Kong titles available through Nintendo Classics; completing all challenges can earn collectible digital Challenge Cards, and eligible U.S. players who finish every challenge may receive a physical 39-card set with a card case. Nintendo also updated its eShop listings for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch with a mix of indie releases and ports. Notable arrivals include Funguys Swarm (available Aug. 25) and Fractured Worlds (Aug. 26) on Nintendo Switch 2, plus a broader rollout of smaller titles across both platforms this week. For the full list of weekly deals and new releases, Nintendo directs users to its sales-and-deals page on the official site. These announcements underscore Nintendo's dual-platform strategy as it supports both Nintendo Switch and the incoming Nintendo Switch 2 with first-party-backed ports, large third-party compilations, and ongoing content for its digital services.
