Description

Nintendo fans can expect an affordable path to next-generation upgrades, as the company officially revealed the pricing for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Upgrade Packs on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

In a recent interview with IGN, Nintendo’s Senior Product Marketing Manager Bill Trinen confirmed that these Upgrade Packs—enhancing both iconic Zelda titles with improved frame rates, higher resolution, and an all-new 'Zelda Notes' smartphone feature—will be available for $9.99 each in the United States. With the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware launching on June 5, 2025, this announcement marks a significant step forward in Nintendo’s efforts to bridge its beloved classics with next-generation technology.

Players who already own Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom on the original Nintendo Switch can unlock all Switch 2 Edition enhancements for a combined total of $20.

While exact pricing for the UK and Europe remains unconfirmed, Nintendo has indicated that it expects regional pricing to be competitively aligned with the US offering. Bill Trinen noted that the decision to set the price at $9.99 per Upgrade Pack was driven by a commitment to accessibility, stating that the goal is to "give existing players more reasons to revisit Hyrule with the full power of the new platform." In a further benefit to Nintendo’s loyal user base, subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service will receive these upgrades for both Zelda titles at no additional cost, providing further value to ongoing membership. It’s important to highlight that these prices currently apply specifically to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Upgrade Packs and pricing for other anticipated titles—such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—have not yet been detailed by Nintendo.

Both Kirby and Super Mario Party Jamboree are expected to include significant new content for their Switch 2 releases, so pricing structures may differ from those for the Zelda upgrades. Nintendo has also confirmed that several original Switch games will benefit from free updates designed to optimize playability on the Switch 2, underscoring the company’s broader approach to supporting its extensive back catalog on the new console.

This multi-pronged strategy aims to ensure that both longtime fans and newcomers can experience enhanced versions of flagship titles as the next hardware era begins. As the Nintendo Switch 2’s June 2025 release approaches, anticipation continues to grow for how these upgrades and updates will redefine first-party classics in the years ahead.
